Centering Prayer Group
Members and friends of First Pres meet every other Monday at 10:45am to practice centering prayer together and learn more about Christian contemplative practices and thought. Centering prayer is a contemplative practice that fosters a deep connection with the Divine. It involves sitting quietly, often choosing a sacred word as a symbol of one’s intention to consent to God’s presence, and gently returning to this word when thoughts arise. This method cultivates inner stillness, openness to God’s guidance, and spiritual growth.
This group begins each meeting with a 20 minute “sit” of centering prayer, and then discusses a subject of interest, often involving a book recommended by a group member. Examples of books studied are those authored by Richard Rohr, Brian McLaren, Barbara Brown Taylor, Thomas Keating, and others.
All are welcome. Contact Pastor Kendra with questions!
